We will be starting a series of posts particularly about Seoul, South Korea that will help answer your questions and guide travelers to adapt to the lifestyle in Seoul.
Some posts we will be writing about Seoul include:

- Food (Street food, traditional market foods, restaurants)
- Sight-seeing locations
If you have requests on what you would like to see posted, leave a comment!
This first post will be about arriving in Incheon Airport. Once you land and leave the airplane, everything is quite straight forward as they have signs to guide you.
On the airplane you would have received:
- Arrival Card – You must fill this card out if you are a visitor.
- Customs Declaration Form – Good being imported must be declared.
Next you are required to line up for immigration, which is quite fast sometimes. They will take your arrival card to record your information into their system as well as having your photo and fingerprints taken.
When you exit immigration, their should be a digital screen that details all the flights that have arrived recently. You can find your flight number and it will display which terminal you can pick up your luggage.
After retrieving your luggage, you need to have your filled customs declaration form handed in to security near the exit.
Before you leave Incheon Airport, be sure to check out exclusive services that you can purchase such as:
- SIM cards
- Wifi Services
- Car Rental Services
- Hotel Services
One of the most utilized services is the SIM card services at ICN. If your phone is unlocked, you can purchase a SIM card. The major cell-phone companies in South Korea are: KT, SK-Telecom, and LG with KT being the most popular. You can either book online or go to the booth to purchase SIM cards directly. SIM cards come with unlimited data and are valid for 5, 10, or 30 days.
There are several methods to get to your hotel or desired location:
- Airport Limousine
The subway will be the cheapest, but depending on where you go it might take long and there is no guarantee that you will find a seat which is grueling after sitting on a long flight! You can take the Airport Railroad Express which has two trains: one non-stop and one that takes a number of stops before reaching Seoul Station – Line 1.
Fare (Incheon Int’l Airport Terminal 1 Station → Seoul Station)
- Express Train: Adults 9,000 won / Children 7,000 won
* Same fare applies for trains from Incheon Int’l Airport Terminal 2 Station.
- All Stop Train: Adults 4,150 won
* Fare from Incheon Int’l Airport Terminal 2 Station: 4,750 won
* Above fare is based on a standard one-time use transportation card (excluding 500 won refundable deposit). Deposit can be refunded at the arrival station.

Taxis can get you exactly where you want to go and because it is private you can sit comfortably. However, note that it takes around one hour or more from Incheon Airport to Seoul, so the cost can be a bit high. Expect to spend around 50,000KRW – 100,000KRW ($44 – $88USD) — depending where you go.
Black taxis are known as the deluxe taxis which are supposed to have better service than regular taxis. Taxis called by hotels are usually the black taxis. Orange or grey taxis are most commonly seen on the street.
Airport Limousines are great because they stop in many areas in Seoul such as MyeongDong, Gangnam, Hongdae, etc. This method costs around 14,000KRW – 16,000KRW depending where you stop. The bus is comfortable and quiet. You can purchase a ticket at the Airport Limousine booth near the exit terminals. The bus stop where you should be waiting at will be written on your ticket. If your destination is still a little ways from the nearest Airport bus stop, you can always take a taxi to your exact location.
We hope you enjoy your time in Seoul!
